Install FileForge on your PC or Mac for everyday file tasks

Published · FileForge

When file tasks are part of your workday, a dedicated FileForge icon is easier to reach than a forgotten browser tab. Browser installation provides quick access to the same free tools, not a separate paid edition. You can continue using the website normally if your computer does not allow app installation.

Install through Chrome or Edge

Open the full FileForge website in Chrome or Edge. When the browser offers an install icon near the address bar, select it and confirm Install. In Chrome, the option may also be labelled Install page as app in a save-and-share menu. Edge can offer Apps followed by Install this site as an app.

After installation, open FileForge from the app launcher or Start menu. Pin the icon to the taskbar or Dock if you want it close at hand. Browser and operating-system versions use different labels, so follow the visible install command rather than looking for one exact screenshot layout.

Safari and computers with restrictions

On supported macOS versions, Safari offers File followed by Add to Dock. Give the app a recognizable name and confirm. If your Safari does not offer that command, use a bookmark or try Chrome or Edge instead; installing another browser is not required simply to use FileForge.

A work or school computer may block browser-installed apps. Do not bypass an organization’s device policy. A normal tab provides the same conversion tools, and bookmarking the site can be enough for occasional work. Installation is optional, not a requirement to access the toolkit.

Keep downloads separate from the app window

Choose local source files, run the operation and download the result. The installed window does not create a history of your documents or synchronize files across computers. Save the finished copy to an intentional folder, open it in the appropriate viewer, and keep the original until you have checked the result.

For a mixed submission pack, Create PDF can assemble supported documents and pictures, while Excel to PDF produces static table pages. Exact office layouts may require exporting to PDF from the original application first. Installation changes how you open the site, not the conversion’s format limitations.

Connection, privacy and removal

The first visit and tools that need additional code require a connection. An installed icon is not a promise of offline startup. Conversion runs on the device, but you still need a trusted browser and sensible file storage; no-upload processing does not protect a downloaded file after you share it.

Remove FileForge through the browser app’s removal command or your operating system’s app controls. A regular bookmark can be deleted separately. Downloaded PDFs, images and archives remain in their saved folders unless you delete them yourself.

Frequently asked questions

Is the desktop app different from the website?
It opens the same FileForge tools through a convenient icon and, where supported, a separate window.
Why is the install icon missing?
Check the browser menu, use an updated supported browser, and check whether your computer blocks app installation.
Will uninstalling delete my converted files?
It does not normally delete files you downloaded to separate folders. Manage those files through your operating system.
